My EDM 310 Blog Assignment Complete

Finally done with all this computer stuff and folitek...so happy to be done and relax for the holidays and had fun with ya guys and hope to have more classes with ya and maybe teach in same school but take care and good luck with finals

What I learned

I learned how to use blogger and post my blogs so people can see my teaching tools and so I can use it as a resource for myself as well. Learned how to do spreadsheets and use database information on igoogle. Learned how to use the computer more for resources and reserch. I am now more computer friendly. I also learned to put up pictures and put up stuff for the blind to make more user friendly. I learned how to make podcast and use them on apple so i can make my own and upload others. Overall learned how to use computer to be a better teacher

Pluses and Minuses

First off, minus as in Folitek..hate it, but class overall is good. some more minuses was the blogs, kind of got tired of doing them and think everybody else did. A plus was that liked when we work together to do all the computer stuff and what not but worked really well. Another plus was the online help videos of the spreadsheets and database. Pretty much there was everything on how to do this and that for the class online which made it easier. Pretty much it was a plus class as long as you go to class, it is easy and just keep up with it and should get a good grade.

EDM 310 Podcast

listened to my podcast and thought it was funny and i sound funny to but it was fun and different being live and everything and anything goes. Other podcast were good too but others were boring and seemed not prepared when ran out of stuff to talk about and just sounded like robots when they read and you can tell they read when you closed your eyes and listened but its all good hopefully we all lose our nervous when we have to be infront of children as well adults.

Teacher E-mail

I actually contacted an ex-girlfriend of mine who is now a teacher of third grade and would just talk about certain stuff that goes on and responsibilities that you never could have imagined. Also it sucks buying stuff for the class cause probably wont get reimburst and teachers obviously dont make alot of money. She mostly said she learned alot when she was student teaching and nothing really truly prepares you for the situations that arise.

Blogs of other classmates

After spending a semester with my classmates and making new friends it has been nice to get to know them better by their blogs. Lookin at individual blogs, realized that people got their own writing styles and some like to write and you can tell by how long their blogs are but it was cool just to look at the power point presentaion again and that was a fun time to see other people whether they were nervous or just funny but its been interesting

ACCESS

The ACCESS lab was a pretty usual computer lab with new computers and monitors and big tvs to demonstrate how to use ACCESS. I went to Davidson High School for the trip. I talked to the teacher and the ACCESS is not currently running at full speed but will be teaching it next year. Also learned that their will be student teaching there so i might get to learn access even more and other computer technology.

Math and technology

A teacher JUdy Chandler is telling people that math and technology go hand in hand. That students need to use math and technology together so they learn better and remember what they are doing and not get behind and show real use of math outside the classroom. When I was in school, I would sometimes wonder why am I learning this math if i will never use it and would become less motivated to do the work at hand. But the program she talks about actually works and can be used as another teaching tool to those kids who have hard time comprehending and just shows that technolgy can help in school subjects.

MOre itunes

I have always thought videos were a good teaching tool cause they are interesting and fun and also very education at the same time. The videos on there were interesting and thought the solar one was pretty cool and remember as a kid remembering experiencing an eclipse and still not wondering why and now i do and think kids would understand more as well. They had some other videos too but I like the solar one the best. They broke down the information easy and nice.

I also watched a couple of others on the solar system and for most part did not get bored and think they could be used as great educational tools. I will probably used podcasts like that in my class since there is alot

Podcasts on teaching outside classroom

The videos were cool and interesting and was hoping that some of my classes such as geology could do that but guess too much of an hassle but think other classes need to be more hands on and think thats a good way learn and actually comprehend what is going on cause you dont think youre learning but you actually are and pretty soon becomes a routine and you know exactly what to do in certain situations.

The Schoolyard one with the one that the students have a garden and work it and learn different stuff is a really cool one and would be cool to do for own classroom maybe like a little green house or something where i teach them how many seeds to count and weigh the vegetable in ounces and pounds.

The other one was cool too but already knew how different parts of the world worked and how some kids dont even get the chance to learn and how Americans take so much for granted and it is really sad and this video should show them how good they have it

iPodcasts

I first had a little troube starting the podcast but got it workin and listened. It was cool and good listened to the podcast so I could actually realize that 15 minutes of talkin is a long time and longer than i that so i would actually have to be prepared. It sounded like for the most part the speakers were prepared and did a good job for the most part.
The podcasts were very imformative and enlightning and very entertaining and want to be like that whe n i do mine and hope i dont get nervous but will try to make the most fun out of it and just go with since it is live and anything goes and can happen so we shall see

Last Lecture of Randy Pausche

The last lecture of Randy Pausche basically tells how he succeeded in life and what how people in is life inspired him to do well and tells people to inspire others as well and how a coach pushed him to do better and road him hard one day but it was a good thing because if no one rides anyone then they dont care and lose hope and so its a good thing that people are rough on people at times.

Randy Pausche has 10 tumors in his stomache and has 3 to 6 months to live but he remains positive and his happy. Does not want to talk about his family but his life and childhood dreams. He also spoke of enabling dreams of others and lessons learned. He had many quotes that i liked and remembered such as " Cannnot change the cards we are delt, just how we play the hand" and he seemed to the his hand quite well and achieved alot of stuff throughout his life.

Some of dreams he did not acheive but said " Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted". He was better off not makin in NFL but bette inspiring people in his field of computers and virtual reality. He seemed like a very well like guy and kind and wanted to better people and inspire people. Pretty sure his work will live on through his peers and his children in which he did his "head fake" and said that is why he gave his speech.

overall the his lecture was awesome and happy i was forced to watch it even though i didnt want to but he had alot of good advice and it was like coming from a father and mentor and just an all around good speaker. I liked the presentation and encourage every teacher to watch this video as many lessons can be learned and taught.

Ipods

First read up on Duke Universtiy and the University is actually giving free Ipods to new Freshmen to start the use of technology and make it advance more. The devices will have a campus calender and the students will be able to download course contents and more. Such as lectures, and a special Duke University website for itunes. This is a one time project to see how it goes so other schools might follow as well

I think Ipods would be a cool thing to have because they are so popular and pretty sure more uses can be used in the future to come. I think its great that they are trying it out and technology is the key to future teaching.

Dr. Alice Christie

Dr. Christie is at the Universtiy of Arizona and has a Phd in educational technology so she is knows all about computers and teaching online and helping other teachers and she also has work shops. She travels across country to do speaches and influence others and tell them guides. She also has a photo gallery and pretty interesting pictures.

I think it would be cool if maybe she came to South and came and talked to the education department and actually Alabama has a good technology. Basically her website is dedicated to teaching and technology to be used for educational purposes.

Random Blogs

First website i visited said NPR: Page Not Found so not sure on that. Second one was wired GQ and said " sorry, we couldn't find the page looking for." I am starting to wonder if this is a message think these are phony websites and we should not trust wikipedia anytime cause anyone can write anything into it and should not be trusted. I personally will not trust or use wi kipedia ever for a researc paper and my professors have told me not to use it as a source I will not use it. It is a really bad source and SHOULD NEVER BE USED AS A SOURCE!!!!

180 days

This is about a professor named Barry Bachenheimer who wonders how much of the 180 days of school year is actually used for teaching. He had a presentation which showed days that would be missed typically and how fast they add up. He had on their first and last days, absentees and tests that would take up days. It ended up going to 120 days.

His argument is very true and strong but what can be done to actually better the days. Students would not like the idea of their summer be shortened and more school. That is not fair at all so what can be done is utilize time, do less tests and more teaching. Testing takes up alot of time and learning time. The school system should allow less absences

technology illiterate

I agree of most of what he says. It is true that it will be difficult for students of the future that they must have a basic understanding of technology and how to use it. Students who do not will fall behind just like a subject of math or reading. We the teachers must have a complete understanding in what we are teaching so we can answer any questions or problems that may come up.

He also put a quote - "If a teacher today is not technologically literate - and is unwilling to make the effort to learn more - it's equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago who didn't know how to read and write." I think that is very true. It may seem exaggerated but it is true. The future is now and computers are taking over and technology is being extremely updated so the teacher must stay updated as well. New tools and programs are being made so I find myself as a teacher probably will have to take new courses as my career goes on.

International Blogs

"myEUROPE is a Web-based project which aims to help teachers raise their pupils' awareness of what it means to be a young citizen in Europe. By involving a network of more than 8000 schools, the diversity of Europe is brought into the classroom via the Internet, since the path to living together in Europe starts at school." This is basically a place to go to for teachers to organize information in Europe.

Did You KNow

It was interesting video at times, then again it would get a little boring but for the most part it was knowledgeable. The video showed how fast the world is growing and our future. It had facts just going on everyday and stats of numbers showing what is going on in this huge place we call earth.
The video had an interesting quote by Einstein and it was so true. Also told how ten years ago alot of college degrees did not exist but we are having new problems and getting smarter to solve them. Overall cool little video, more of a powerpoint to me

ACCESS

ACCESS is another internet learning tool mainly used for high school students to encourage learning purposes and motivation. You can use video conferencing and all that to connect to students to teach them and even a class. ACCESS can be used throught the system ALEX which also is teacher friendly. Both of these are a click away from being used to make life simpler for today's teacher to better educate our future.

ALEX

ALEX is an Alabama website where teachers talk and exchange lesson plans and is a good place for new teachers to use to get a more understanding of their profession of teaching. Teachers can talk to eachother and exchange lesson plans which will make life simpler once we become teachers. The website has basically every subject so it pretty much covers everything. "ALEX, won a 2007 “Best of the Web” Award from the Center for Digital Education and Government, hosting, through the Alabama Supercomputer Authority, a rich assortment of interactives and resources linked to the searchable Alabama Courses of Study"-http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/route21/index.php?option=com_jlibrary&view=details&id=585&Itemid=179. But the website seems to be quite useful and very helpful.
